Selank Peptide: Anxiety, Stress and Cognitive Research
This article describes published research, not personal treatment or dosing advice. Experimental compounds may not be approved for human use.
What is Selank?
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from tuftsin, studied for its potential effects on anxiety and stress-related signalling.
What have human studies found?
A 2008 study compared Selank in 30 patients with medazepam in 32 patients with generalised anxiety disorder or neurasthenia. The authors reported similar anxiolytic effects and additional anti-asthenic findings in the Selank group. The study was relatively small and does not establish effectiveness or long-term safety in broader populations.
What do laboratory studies suggest?
Mechanistic experiments have examined effects on GABA-related signalling and other neurochemical pathways. Such results cannot by themselves demonstrate clinical benefit.
Does Selank improve memory or sleep?
These are popular research questions, but robust evidence for improving cognition or sleep in healthy adults is lacking. Selank should not be treated as an established sleep medicine.
Selank versus Semax
Selank is principally investigated for anxiety-related effects; Semax has been studied in neurological and neurotrophic contexts, including stroke rehabilitation.
